How to install Agent Skills
Three ways to install any skill into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor — and how to check it worked.
The short answer
Agent already open? Paste the install prompt. In a terminal? Run one npx command. Prefer to read files first? Clone the repo and copy the folder. You are done when SKILL.md sits directly inside the skill’s folder and your agent lists it.
1. Install prompt (easiest)
Every skill page has an install prompt. Paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor — the agent reads our agent-readable install.md and runs the right command for itself.
Read https://skilloop.dev/skills/<slug>/install.md and follow the instructions to install the skill.
2. One-line CLI
We use the open-source `skills` CLI (vercel-labs/skills, MIT). It clones the source repository and copies the skill folder into the right place for each agent.
npx skills add <owner>/<repo> --skill <name> -g -a claude-code
npx skills add <owner>/<repo> --skill <name> -g -a codex -a cursor
npx skills add <owner>/<repo> --skill <name> -a claude-code
3. Manual (git)
Copy the whole folder, not just SKILL.md — instructions often reference scripts and assets next to it.
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/<owner>/<repo>.git /tmp/repo mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && cp -r /tmp/repo/skills/<name> ~/.claude/skills/<name>
4. Skilloop Original skills (ZIP)
Original skills ship as a ZIP from this site. The ZIP already contains the skill folder, so unzip it straight into the skills directory.
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills && curl -fsSL https://skilloop.dev/downloads/skills/<slug>.zip -o /tmp/<slug>.zip && unzip -oq /tmp/<slug>.zip -d ~/.claude/skills/
mkdir -p ~/.agents/skills && curl -fsSL https://skilloop.dev/downloads/skills/<slug>.zip -o /tmp/<slug>.zip && unzip -oq /tmp/<slug>.zip -d ~/.agents/skills/
Where each agent looks for skills
| Agent | Global folder | Project folder |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | ~/.claude/skills/<name>/ | .claude/skills/<name>/ |
| Codex | ~/.agents/skills/<name>/ | .agents/skills/<name>/ |
| Cursor | ~/.agents/skills/<name>/ | .agents/skills/<name>/ |
| Gemini CLI / OpenCode | ~/.agents/skills/<name>/ | .agents/skills/<name>/ |
Check it worked
Right: ~/.claude/skills/my-skill/SKILL.md. Wrong: ~/.claude/skills/my-skill/my-skill/SKILL.md (extra level from a ZIP) or SKILL.md loose in skills/. Restart the agent if it does not pick up new skills, then ask it to list available skills.
Safety
Skills are instructions plus code your agent may run. Read SKILL.md and any scripts before installing, prefer skills with a clear license and source, and never paste API keys into a skill file.
